Seminars Series

Virtual Seminars in Biomedical Science

These seminars are online talks every Thursday at 4pm (BST) and they aim to amplifying the voices of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the field of regenerative medicine. Speakers from various universities around the world are presenting. Registration is required.
For more information about these seminars please contact Dr James Armstrong.

Stem Cells at Lunch Seminar Series at King's College London
Stem Cells @ Lunch is a fortnightly lunchtime seminar series, hosted by the Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine as a forum for early career scientists to discuss recent data and current topics in an informal setting. You can also follow them on Twitter @KCLstemcells
For more information about Stem Cells at lunch contact
Dr Davide Danovi & Dr Ines Sequeira.

Stem Cell Forum at The Francis Crick Institute
The Stem Cell Forum at the Francis Crick Institute is a long-standing series of seminars run by Prof. Dominique Bonnet. We invite speakers from all fields of stem cell research and enjoy a wide variety of talks from researchers both in London and from further afield. The forum usually runs with two invited PhD students or Post Docs presenting short talks and one established PI presenting a full seminar. We finish the forum with networking over food and drinks kindly supplied by our sponsors. Email Prof. Bonnet if you would like to be added to the mailing list, or you would like to submit an abstract for a talk.

Update: Considering the actual situation, Stem Cell Forum has gone virtual, and will take place every two weeks. Please email Egle Kackauskaite for details on how to join.

Blood and Bone Seminar Series

Kellie Machlus at Harvard University is running the Blood and Bone Seminars (Online).
They run daily at 1pm EST, 1 hour (40 min talk + Q&A).

Join today the Quarantine Blood and Bone Marrow webinar.
To view all speakers or to sign up as a presenter, please use the Google Doc Schedule.

London Stem Cell Network
The London Stem Cell Network (LSCN) is a newly established platform for all London research groups working in this area across all London Universities and Institutes. It is organised by representatives of the Francis Crick Institute, Imperial College, King’s College and University College London. LSCN’s mission is to serve as a networking platform for the London Stem Cell research community and facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration across the London Universities and Institutes. The inaugural seminar was held on the 26th February 2018 at the Francis Crick Institute.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • Abcam “Adult Neurogenesis 2021” and “Building and Repairing the Brain”

Date: 4-6th October 2021
Place: Dresden, Germany

Adult neurogenesis is distinct from embryonic forms of neurogenesis in that neuronal development underlies extrinsic regulation, from physiological to pathological. This regulation targets different stages of neuronal development, between cell cycle entry and proliferation of radial glia-like stem cells to the lasting integration of the newly generated neurons. There are obvious feedback loops in that regulation of neurogenesis might alter behavior, which in turn acts back on adult neurogenesis. But how does this all work? How does regulation occur across scales? What constitutes ‘causes’ and ‘mechanisms’ in such complex system? The 2020 Adult neurogenesis meeting uses these key questions as entry point into discussions about how activity and development are linked in adult neurogenesis.

This conference adjoins with the Building and Repairing the Brain 2021 meeting (October 6-8, 2021).

  • EMBO "The Molecular and Cellular Basis of Regeneration & Tissue Repair"
Date: 26-30th September 2022
Place: Barcelona, Spain

This upcoming EMBO Workshop will address the cellular, molecular and genetic basis of regeneration focusing on fibrosis-free regeneration, insight from development supported by the latest technical tools and comprise a session on Philosophy of Regeneration. Chosen topics highlight how a comparative perspective of different model organisms and thinking “outside the box” about regeneration can propel our understanding of the field, stimulate discussion and development of new perspectives among attendees, and foster new collaborations. The overall goal of this EMBO Workshop is to significantly advance our understanding of how regeneration is coordinated in a whole animal or organ system so that those who work in non-regenerating systems may develop more effective therapeutic approaches to convert healing into regeneration.

Collaborations

Chisartscience

Illuminations is a collaborative Science-Art initiative between artists from Chisenhale Art Studios, and scientists from the Centre for Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine at King’s College London and the Imperial College Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine Network. Artists and scientists have paired up over “speed dating” sessions and are working together to explore creative methods by which current stem cell research can engage the public. The pairings have been working together to create a tour of public facing multi-media exhibitions for October 2020.

Works in progress can be seen on the project dedicated blog . Some new online initiatives are also currently in the works to connect with people at home during lockdown. Watch this space!
